Antique tool chest help?? Gerstner?

I've inherited an antique tool chest from my grandfather that is believed to be from the 1930's or 40's i'm looking for any and all information i can get on it, including it's value the lock on it has the name Yale on it, but i'm told the brand of the chest could actually be Gerstner. Any info is appreciated...

Hi Ashley-

Unfortunately, if your tool chest was made in the 30s or 40s it is NOT an antique --- vintage maybe, but not antique.
An easy way to think of antiques is to think if there are people still alive today that were born in the 30s and 40s ---- which here is of course.
There are still people alive today that were born in the late 1800s.

So - NOT an antique.

There is some good news though --- H. Gerstner & Sons Inc. of Dayton, Ohio have been in business for over 100 years and are quite prestigious chest makers.
A Gerstner chest is marked as such.
They will be happy tell you the date of your chest.
Gerstners are the Rolls Royce's of tool chests -- they weren't cheap new.
Any high quality wooden tool chest no matter of age is worth a decent buck.

Yale Lock Co. has also been around awhile but an antique Yale lock is fairly rare.
Yale is one of the most well known locks in the world and they will also be able to tell you what year your lock is.

Here is a photo of an actual Yale and Towne lock this is over 100 yrs old --- it's on sell for $24.99.
